Governor Newsom Signs Key Bill to Alleviate Bay Area Housing Crisis
AB 1487 (Chiu) empowers Bay Area voters to raise new revenue to address housing crisis
Sacramento, CA — The Three P’s Coalition for Housing Production, Protection and Preservation today applauded the signing of AB 1487 (Chiu, D- San Francisco), a bill that will give the nine counties in the Bay Area the regional tools needed to address our severe housing crisis.
“The severity and inhumanity of California’s housing crisis can’t be ignored in the Bay Area, where families are packed into overcrowded apartments or cars, workers endure long commutes to afford any place to live, and the number of homeless people reminds us how many more communities are just a bump in the road away from crisis,” said Monika Lee, a spokesperson for the Three P’s campaign. “AB 1487 is a regional approach to solving the housing emergency that was forged by a broad cross-section of leaders, industries, and local governments who recognize the Bay Area must work together to solve an emergency of this size and scope. We thank Assembly member Chiu and legislators who supported helping the Bay Area with another tool to address the housing and homelessness crisis and thank Governor Newsom for signing this important bill.”
The Three P’s coalition represents a broad and diverse set of organizations from business, labor, housing, environmental justice, local government, and other sectors who have come together to secure California’s housing future.
