Three P’s Celebrates Passage of AB 1482 in Key Committee;
Protection Key to Addressing Housing Crisis

Sacramento, CA — The Housing Production, Preservation, and Protection Coalition released the following statement following Senate Judiciary passing AB 1482 (Chiu), which will protect tenants from unfair rent gouging and unjust evictions.

“The Three P’s coalition is pleased that the Senate Judiciary Committee has recognized tenant protection as an urgent need amidst California’s housing emergency and passed AB 1482 to protect tenants from unfair rent gouging and unjust evictions. Protecting tenants is a key part of our ‘Three P’s’ agenda which also calls for ramping up housing production at all income levels and preserving existing affordable homes.

“No one should be one car repair or emergency room visit away from winding up on the streets, but that is the situation faced by too many seniors living on fixed incomes. Hard working Californians, from teachers to first responders, are increasingly unable to stay in their communities as rents soar. AB 1482 protects California families from the most unscrupulous landlords, and works in conjunction with the production and preservation components of our ‘Three P’s’ agenda to ensure that we protect current renters even as we increase production to relieve pressure on Californian’s pocketbooks.”
