Three P’s Housing Coalition Applauds Passage of SB 6 from Assembly Appropriations Committee; “Surplus Lands” Bill Key Plank in Bold 2019 Plan for Housing Production, Preservation, and Protection

Sacramento, CA — The Three P’s Coalition for Housing Production, Preservation, and Protection released the following statement after SB 6 (McGuire, Beall) moved to the Assembly Floor:

“Across California, surplus lands are ripe for development to help meet the demand for 180,000 new housing units our state needs each year just to keep up with population growth, yet developers often do not know when ‘surplus land’ sites are available to develop and which entities manage the land. The Three P’s coalition supports SB 6, which creates a statewide list of all local lands suitable and available for residential development as identified by local governments. Identifying under-utilized, government-owned properties will make it easier for developers to build on government-owned properties prime for development.”

The Three P’s coalition represents a broad and diverse set of organizations from business, labor, housing, environmental justice, local government, and other sectors who have come together to secure California’s housing future. These organizations have united behind the 2019 Plan for Housing Production, Preservation, and Protection. The bills must be passed in the Assembly before the September 13th deadline.
